Cloudy, throbbing, stuffed up?

When the leaves fall, do your airways constrict and sinuses congest?  Do your throbbing headaches prevent you from enjoying the fall colors?  I remember when my eyes would tear up so badly that a film would cloud my vision and cover my contact lenses.  It’d  make everything from driving to reading difficult.  So, I’d wear my glasses, wipe my eyes and hope for the best.  That is, until infection set in.

The allergy whirlwind

  • clear, runny nose
  • cracking ears
  • sore throat
  • constricted airways
  • constricted sinus cavities
  • thicker mucas
  • cloudy vision
  • headache
  • neck ache
  • swollen glands
  • infection sets in
  • productivity & focus depletes
  • miserable

Old, broken techniques

Here’s what I used to do…

  • blow nose
  • wipe eyes
  • take allergy meds
  • sleep more
  • drink more water
  • eat comfort food (ie. chocolate malt ball ice-cream)
  • wear glasses instead of contacts
  • get antibiotics from my doctor
  • finish antibiotic cycle
  • two weeks later, get antibiotics again
  • all fall, winter and spring
  • summer was my only hope, untill ragweed blooming.  Arggghhh!

Sound familiar?

Sing a new song.  “Free at last!”

I’ve learned some simple and effective techniques to help overcome and avoid this cumbersome cycle.   I hope they help you!

  • Raise the immune system so histamine isn’t produced when in contact with ‘allergens’.   How?
    • Energizing Soy Protein
    • Vitalizer
    • Nutriferon
  • Avoid sugar (which lowers the immune system and uses up antioxidants).
  • Distinguish acquired allergies from actual allergies; avoid actual allergens
  • Thin the mucas.  How?
    • alfalfa (thins mucas, reduces inflamation & raises immunity.)
    • What if you’re allergic to grasses?  Don’t worry, for most people Shaklee’s alfalfa isn’t allergy causing because we only use the leaves, not the stems of the plant.  Also, we only use mature alfalfa leaves so the root systems go deep into the soil.  Why is this important?  When you take our alfalfa, you get the trace minerals found deep within the earth which can raise your immunity.
    • Take acidophilus to thin intestinal mucas.  Much of the immune system effectiveness is in the intestine.
    • Hydrate with purified water to thin the mucas and avoid infection.
    • Avoid mucas producing foods like dairy.
  • If congested, irrigate the sinuses immediately.   This removes excessive thick mucas, kills infection and reduces inflamation.
  • Soothe sore throat with echanacea & zinc
  • Kill infection
  • Breathe clean air.

Lead-Contaminated Vitamins!

Drop-wrist?  Blue line on gums?  Anxiety?  You may have lead contamination.

The FDA uncovers that lead is found in many vitamins.  Shaklee vitamins do not contain lead!

Lead toxicity (emedicine, Wikepedia) lowers the immune system, causes neurological (ADD, memory & anxiety) and fertility problems.

Symptoms and effects

The symptoms of chronic lead poisoning include neurological problems, such as reduced cognitive abilities, or nausea, abdominal pain, irritability, insomnia, metal taste in oral cavity, excess lethargy or hyperactivity, chest pain, headache and, in extreme cases, seizure and coma. There are also associated gastrointestinal problems, such as constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, poor appetite, weight loss, which are common in acute poisoning. Other associated effects are anemia, kidney problems, and reproductive problems.

In humans, lead toxicity sometimes causes the formation of a bluish line along the gums, which is known as the “Burton’s line”, although this is very uncommon in young children. Blood film examination may reveal “basophilic stippling” of red blood cells, as well as the changes normally associated with iron-deficiency anemia (microcytosis and hypochromia). However, basophillic stippling is also seen in unrelated conditions, such as megaloblastic anemia caused by vitamin B12 (colbalamin) and folate deficiencies.[14]

Lead affects the peripheral and central nervous system. The most common sign of peripheral neuropathy due to chronic lead poisoning is painless wristdrop (weakness of the extensor muscles of hand) which usually develops after many weeks of exposure.

A direct link between early lead exposure and extreme learning disability has been confirmed by multiple researchers and child advocacy groups.

A May 2000 study by economic consultant Rick Nevin theorizes that lead exposure explains 65% to 90% of the variation in violent crime rates in the U.S.[15][16]. A July 2007 paper by the same author claims to show a strong association between preschool blood lead and subsequent crime rate trends over several decades across nine different countries[17]. These results were discussed in a July 2007 Washington Post article, reviving interest in the subject[18]. Nevin’s results reflect peer reviewed findings by Dartmouth Political Scientist Roger D. Masters,[19] [20]and similar work is being done by other researchers. Amherst economist Jessica Reyes’ working paper[21] and Masters’ work are both pre-publication and available online.

There are 2 types of allergic reactions…

  • IMMEDIATE REACTION – IgE:  This occurs within minutes after exposure.  Most common allergens are: dander, shellfish, nuts, bee stings, mold & pollen.

  • DELAYED REACTION – IgG: Appearing 24-72 hours after exposure, they’re difficult to discover. Most commonly from dairy, cigarette smoke, wheat, eggs & chemicals (in food, air, hygiene / cleaning products, clothing & water).  This type of allergen has long term affects on the body.
